Nerve Center

Well it must be stressful in the dugout (especially when behind 14-1), however the control room in the stadium must be just as crazy. Too bad radio controls aren't as pretty or as colorful looking. This is the control room at Citi Field in NY:

Look up…

I was wondering where Patti ended up.  Oh wait, she now has discovered a small spot above the fridge.

Yard Sale

Just completed another yard sale. This sale is ahead of what will likely be a move to a smaller apartment. So, we got rid of some extra furniture and other items and made $119. Yippee!!

Chicago 2010

Michele and I took a vacation over to Chicago to take in some of the sights and visit with my brother Ben. As an added attraction, we took along my parents for the ride. We saw 43 different state plates, 5 Canadian provinces, and 1 Mexican state along I-80 for the 800 or so miles on that highway.  Now a few photos from our trip:

Good doggie

This dog greets me most mornings on my daily walk...

...my neighbor must have an issue and they're trying to correct it in a unique way.

Scandal!

I've been using a navigation program. And, by using it...I mean I have been evaluating it. Why is this a scandal? Because I complain about people using such devices. My sister classified me as an "Old Coot" for thinking a road atlas works just as well. I still stand by my statement.

Enter waze.  A free open source navigation system. I'm fascinated by the program. It is using the "crowd" to build the program and improve its directions.  Yelp is a very popular website destination for people looking to learn where to eat or stay based on information left by previous consumers. Similarly, Waze operates y by monitoring where you go, and how long it takes to get there. It improves its estimates with more use. It also generates traffic alerts based on your movement. It is by no means perfect, but gets better with time.

It is interesting to me (and by now you know I'm map geek) to see where traffic messages are coming from and if I should hit some traffic I will be able to share that information with others (although there rarely are traffic concerns in my neck of the woods.) So, there I'm actually toying around with a gps/navigation program. Who knew it would come to this? The program is available for iPhones and in beta testing for Blackberry. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Busy as a bee

In a perfect world, I would make a post of some substance every day.  I have maintained a blog for about 6 or 7 years (only 3 in this current form via WordPress) and have yet to meet that goal. This is mostly because I don't know that I  really have anything particularly interesting for anyone in the ether. In this age of the internet anyone can have a space and spew their nonsense and well...I guess I'm of them.  Anyway, aside from content, my other major obstacle has been time.  June has been a busier month at my place of employment compared to other months. Most recently I have been busy with...

Carl Kassel with Me!

...if public radio talent were rock stars, this guy would probably be one of the lead artists in the band.  Carl Kasell has been with NPR since the early days of the public radio system. He was part of the most listened to public radio programs, Morning Edition. So, if you have listened to public radio at some point in the past 30 years, you probably heard Carl once, twice, or too many times to count.  It was amazing to meet Carl. It wasn't his first visit to the area, actually his third as a guest of WRVO.  Many listeners were so excited to meet and see him. We had several events surrounding his visit to the area. It's amazing to see how people react to a voice they've heard forever on radio.  He's a rock star!
