Last day in March

Today - Ever have one of those days when you feel like it's all a marathon? Right now the station is in the process of hiring a new morning news producer so I'm in charge of picking them up and touring them around the area...

7:00a - Leave for Syracuse to pick up a candidate at the Syracuse airport hotel

8:00a - Grab breakfast with the prospective employee at Tim Hortons (where else would you start the day for someone who has never been to New York!)

8:45a - Give a driving tour of Syracuse

10:00a - Give a driving tour of Oswego

10:45a - Convene Search Committee and give interview

12:00p - Catch my breath

12:30p - Lunch with candidate and some staff at Canales

2:00p - Meeting with Vice President of Alumni and Development (a.k.a. my boss' boss)

2:45p - Walking tour of campus

3:30p - Actually do some regularly scheduled work!

5:00p - Drive Michele to a baby sitting job

6:00p - Back to campus to arrange stuff for tomorrow at WRVO

6:30p - Meeting with head labbie at the Radio Lab

7:00p - Radio Lab Meeting with Pizza

8:00p - E-board meeting at WNYO

9:00p - Home! Catch up on email, grade papers, plan classes, catch up on program information for NPR, schedule some tweets for WRVO and hopefully go  to bed soon.

Do it all again tomorrow with another candidate...luckily I don't have the Radio Lab or WNYO meetings to end the day!

New era in student broadcasting

There has been a lot of talk about the main bridge in town closing, but there is something else that has ended in the community. It's the broadcast of WNYO from the Hewitt Student Union. The station quietly signed off with little fanfare before spring break. They are now preparing to begin broadcast from the new campus center. As you will see in these pictures, there is a lot of work to go. Though, they do plan to hopefully broadcast with automation beginning in a few days.  Here are a few pictures:

Thanks to Ed Smith, GM at WNYO for allowing me to take a few shots. I also was given a tour of WTOP, the campus television station, those pictures to come in a future post.

A Post for 2/29

While I'm extremely tired from working the morning shift, I'm going to fight sleep and make write an entry. It will be a few years until I have the privilege of making a note on the 29th of February again.

Unfortunately, I have nothing of major importance to speak of. Well, I take that back, maybe I do. I would like to say, "Good Luck" to the Oswego Lakers. This Saturday the Lakers

Market Saturation

I have been at WRVO since 2000. In my current capacity I occasionally act as a backup host when others are out sick or on vacation. I have also DJed at the student station, WNYO, since about 1998.  I can't think of a time where I was actually on-air on both stations simultaneously. Tonight it was possible to hear me on 88.9 and 89.9 at the same time thanks to magic of computer assisted radio automation. I'm sure no one noticed, the two stations cater to completely different audiences.

Yet another semester…

It's a new semester and once again I will be a DJ on WNYO. WNYO is the student run music station on campus. I'll be hosting a 2-hour alternative rock program every Sunday evening 6p-8p throughout the semester. Listen to WNYO online: (hi-fi) (lo-fi)
